Speaker Heastie Joins Assemblymember Wallace in Lancaster to Announce Funding for Feasibility Study on New Bike Path
Speaker Heastie today continued his annual statewide tour, joining Assemblymember Monica Wallace to announce an Assembly investment of $50,000 for a feasibility study to connect existing bike trails between Lancaster and Cheektowaga, along with an additional $1 million investment toward construction of the trail if the study deems the connection feasible. The study will examine the possible expansion of the bike trail along a five mile stretch that would ultimately connect the existing Lancaster Heritage Trail to the LeHigh Valley Rail Trail in Cheektowaga.
“Every year when I tour different regions across this state, I am in awe of all that New York has to offer for outdoor recreation,” said Speaker Heastie. “I am excited to be here today with Assemblymember Wallace to announce this investment that will hopefully lead to further investments to expand this beautiful trail.”
“Connecting the Lancaster Heritage Trail to the LeHigh Valley Rail Trail in Cheektowaga would give families in Lancaster, Cheektowaga and Depew a chance to enjoy the outdoors in a safe and healthy way,” said Assemblymember Wallace. “It will also allow residents to travel from the Village of Lancaster to western Cheektowaga by bicycle, which is great for the health of our community and for our environment. It is an honor to have Speaker Heastie here today to join me in announcing this critical Assembly investment in our community.”
Speaker Heastie and Assemblymember Wallace visited the Lancaster Heritage Trail together to announce the funding. The pair were joined by Village of Lancaster Mayor Lynne Ruda, Town of Lancaster Supervisor Ronald Ruffino, Village of Depew Mayor Kevin Peterson, Amy Weymouth of the Greater Buffalo Niagara Regional Transportation Council and Justin Booth from GoBike Buffalo.
