Speaker Heastie Joins Assemblymember Eachus to Visit Community Impacted by Devastating Flooding and Discuss Recovery Efforts

Speaker Carl Heastie today met with Assemblymember Christopher Eachus in Highland Falls to see firsthand the damage done by the weekend’s devastating storms and flooding, and to discuss the region’s recovery efforts.

“This flooding will have long-term effects on families and businesses here in the Hudson Valley and across state that were hit by storms this past weekend,” said Speaker Heastie. “I will continue to work with Assemblymember Eachus, our Assembly Majority colleagues and with our partners in all levels of government to help Highland Falls and other communities that were effected get the resources they need to rebuild and recover.”

“Our community is just starting to pick up the pieces from this once in a lifetime storm,” said Assemblymember Eachus. “I’m devastated for the family of the young woman killed and for my neighbors who lost their homes and a lifetime of possessions to these waters. The recovery effort is going to be a long road, but I’m committed to working with our local officials, state agencies and federal counterparts to ensure the Hudson Valley Region is built back stronger than ever.”

Speaker Heastie and Assemblymember Eachus were joined by Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Services Commissioner Jackie Bray, Highland Falls Mayor Joseph D’Onofrio and Orange County Legislator Laurie Tautel in Highland Falls to see the damage done by storms and severe flash flooding over the weekend, and to discuss the path to recovery for the community. Together they visited several neighborhoods in Highland Falls, some of which experienced three to four feet of basement flooding. Orange County currently remains under a declared state of emergency.
