Speaker Heastie Visits Bayswater Point State Park During Statewide Tour

Speaker Carl Heastie made another stop on his annual statewide tour today, visiting the Bayswater Point State Park and Jamaica Bay in Far Rockaway, Queens with Assemblymember Stacey Pheffer Amato to see the park’s preservation and restoration projects.

“I’m honored to be invited to tour the beautiful Bayswater Point State Park today with Assemblymember Pheffer Amato,” said Speaker Heastie. “It’s incredible to see the preservation efforts in action, and I’m proud of the work the Assembly Majority continues to do to ensure these parks are just as special for the next generation of New Yorkers.”

“I want to thank Speaker Heastie for joining me today to tour Jamaica Bay – the crown jewel of New York,” said Assemblymember Pheffer Amato. “The New York State Parks Department, along with the incredible volunteers from the Jamaica Bay-Rockaway Parks Conservancy, work to ensure that our shorelines and parks are safe, clean and are being restored to peak condition. I am incredibly proud to partner in this work while elevating Jamaica Bay for our community and New York State.”

Speaker Heastie and Assemblymember Pheffer Amato were given a tour of the park by Executive Director of Jamaica Bay-Rockaway Parks Conservancy Terri Carta, along with members of the New York State Parks Department, to view the restoration projects the group is undertaking utilizing a $75,000 budget allocation from the Assembly Majority. The Jamaica Bay-Rockaway Parks Conservancy, through a partnership with Assemblymember Pheffer Amato, is working to teach residents of the Rockaway Peninsula about environmentally based career opportunities, provide individuals with hands-on environmental experience with their unique fellowship program, while also utilizing volunteers to help repair the shoreline through restoration projects and in-depth maintenance.
