Speaker Heastie Announced $1 Million for Boys & Girls Clubs of the Northtowns on Annual Statewide Tour

Speaker Carl Heastie today continued his annual statewide tour in Western New York, where he joined Assemblymember William Conrad, visiting Camp Spirit in North Tonawanda. There, they announced $1 million including $500,000 to support the organization’s after-school programming at its clubs at North Tonawanda Intermediate School, Spruce Elementary and Sheridan-Parkside, and $500,000 for capital improvements to its Newman Family and Town clubs.

“The Boys & Girls Clubs is such an incredible resource for children and for families, and this funding will help them continue to provide important programming like Camp Spirit,” Speaker Heastie said. “The Assembly Majority will continue working to give kids here in Western New York and across the state the tools they need to learn, grow and thrive.”

“I’m incredibly proud to show Speaker Heastie the hard work the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Northtowns is doing to ensure our children have a safe and fun place to go during the summer,” said Assemblymember Conrad. “As a community, it is our duty to ensure the safety and happiness of the next generation, and I will continue to work with my Assembly Majority colleagues to ensure the Boys & Girls Clubs, and organizations like it, continue to thrive.”

Speaker Heastie joined Assemblymember Conrad and Boys & Girls Clubs of the Northtowns CEO Bob O’Brocta at Camp Spirit in North Tonawanda, which provides a summer day camp for children ages five to 12. Since 2021, the Assembly Majority has allocated $155,000 to the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Northtowns to support their work in establishing a new club in the Town of Tonawanda and programming costs, and provided $150,000 in funding for the Western New York Boys & Girls Clubs Collaborative programming in the State Fiscal Year 2023-34 Budget.The collaborative serves 17,000 children ages five to 18 from Rochester to Jamestown and up to Niagara Falls.
