Speaker Heastie Continues Annual Statewide Tour, Announces $620,000 for Glens Falls Senior Center with Assemblymember Woerner

Speaker Carl Heastie today continued his annual statewide tour in Glens Falls with Assemblymember Carrie Woerner, where they visited the Glens Falls Senior Center and announced $500,000 in capital funding for the senior center to update their basement elevator, outdoor ramp and indoor chair lift to make them compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act and update windows and the senior center’s van. Additionally, they announced $100,000 for other equipment for the senior center, including wood workshop tools, as well as $20,000 for a new speaker system.

“Today’s tour stop was a lively one,” Speaker Heastie said. “The Glens Falls Senior Center is doing great work, providing community members with not only help applying for medical and government assistance, but as we saw, with a variety of fun social activities. We’ll keep working to help the Glens Falls Senior Center and organizations like it across the state get the tools and resources they need.”

“I can’t thank Speaker Heastie enough for making the trip upstate to visit our incredible Glens Falls Senior Citizens Center,” said Assemblymember Woerner. “Life does not stop once you turn 60 or even 90. Our center is stepping in to provide our seniors with health, educational and recreational activities as they enter a new phase of life. I remain committed to ensuring that this care continues and thank my Assembly Majority colleagues for their support as we continue to work hard for our seniors.”

Speaker Heastie and Assemblymember Woerner toured the Glens Falls Senior Citizens Center in Glens Falls to meet with Senior Center Executive Director Kim Bren, the center’s members and participate in Ginny Allen’s Line Dancing Class. Glens Falls Senior Citizens Center seeks to improve the quality of life of those 50 and older through a wide range of educational, health and recreational services at the center and throughout the community. To support this work, the Assembly Majority allocated $35,000 from the 2023-2024 budget.

After the tour, Speaker Heastie and Assemblymember Woerner were welcomed by Gourmet Café Chef Francis Willis for lunch at the restaurant he owns with his wife Tracey in the heart of downtown Glens Falls. During the visit to Glens Falls, Speaker Heastie and Assemblymember Woerner were joined by the Mayor of Glens Falls, Bill Collins.
