Speaker Heastie and Assemblymember Buttenschon Visit Tornado Damage in Rome, Announcing $2 Million for Recovery Efforts

Speaker Carl Heastie continued his annual statewide tour today in Oneida County, joining Assemblymember Marianne Buttenschon to see the damage caused by the recent tornado that hit Rome and to announce $2 million for the city’s continued recovery efforts.
“This tornado devasted the city of Rome, causing widespread damage to people’s homes and livelihoods,” said Speaker Heastie. “Assemblymember Buttenschon and I will continue to work together with our partners in government to get Rome, its people and its businesses the resources they need to recover and rebuild.”
“I want to thank Speaker Heastie for joining me to tour the city of Rome and discuss our ongoing recovery efforts,” said Assemblymember Buttenschon. “Our community has suffered an incredible loss, but this funding will provide the much-needed next step in reconstruction. I look forward to working with our federal and state partners to ensure the Mohawk Valley is fully rebuilt.”
On July 16, a tornado swept through the city of Rome destroying homes, churches and small businesses. Speaker Heastie, Assemblymember Buttenschon and the Assembly Majority are committed to providing the city of Rome the support needed to rebuild. The $2 million in funding announced today includes $1 million in capital funds, as well as $1 million in operating funds for the city of Rome.
