Albany, NY – Today, Governor Hochul signed into law Senator Joseph Griffo and Assemblymember Alex Bores’ bill to increase the maximum penalty on telemarketers. Previously, A04456/S04617 passed the Assembly by a nearly-unanimous bipartisan vote of 146-1 and passed the Senate unanimously.

“This law is a victory for every New Yorker who would like to be able to pick up their phone in peace. I am grateful to Senator Griffo and the Governor for ensuring this commonsense legislation, which received overwhelming bipartisan support in both houses, is now law” said Assemblymember Bores.

“I am pleased that the governor has signed this bill into law and thank Assemblymember Bores for his efforts to address this issue. It is my hope that this legislation will provide some much-needed relief to New Yorkers who are sick and tired of receiving bothersome, inconvenient and troublesome calls every day” said Senator Griffo.

This bill was first introduced in the Assembly by Bores’ predecessor in the 73rd District, now-Civil Court Judge Dan Quart. Senator Griffo has carried this bill in the New York State Senate since 2016.
