New York State Department of Health, Office of Health Systems Management Adult Home Initiatives

This program seeks innovative methods to improve independence and quality of life for residents in adult homes, enriched housing programs and residences for adults. These methods can include but are not limited to: independent living skills training, increased opportunities to participate in community activities and social opportunities, maintaining memory, or engaging in supervised activity to improve physical condition and reduce falls and injuries.
ELIGIBILITY:  Licensed adult homes, enriched housing programs and residences for adults.
FUNDING:  The maximum award is $100,000 and will have a one-year term with no renewals.

Agricultural and Farmland Protection Program

Energy-Efficient Products for Industrial Applications

The Authority announces the availability of funding for projects to develop, demonstrate and commercialize energy-efficient products, technologies and services targeted for use by industry, including: manufacturing, materials processing, food processing, production agriculture, etc.

Farmland Viability Program

Consultation Grants

National Endowment for the Humanities

The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) invites applications for consultation grants that help museums, libraries, historical organizations and community organizations develop humanities projects. Grants may be used to meet with advisers, program partners and representatives of target audiences; travel to relevant collections; seek out advisers; and develop humanities projects. The NEH will publish new guidance on the program this summer. Current guidelines should be used only for reference.
ELIGIBILITY:  Nonprofit organizations with 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status.

Children’s Book Grants for Rural Libraries

Libri Foundation

The Libri Foundation donates new, quality, hardcover children’s books to small, rural public libraries through its Books for Children Program. The Foundation works with the library’s Friends of the Library or other local organizations and seeks to encourage and reward local support of libraries.
ELIGIBILITY:  Libraries are qualified on an individual basis. In general, a library should serve a population under 10,000 (usually under 5,000), have a very limited budget, be in a rural area, and have an active children’s department. Rural is usually considered to be at least 30 miles from a city with a population over 40,000. Applications are accepted from independent libraries as well as libraries that are part of a county, regional, or cooperative library system. A library system may also apply if all the libraries in the system meet these requirements. Applications are accepted from school libraries only if they also serve as the public library. A branch library may apply if the community it is in meets the definition of rural. If the branch library receives its funding from its parent institution, then the parent institution’s total operating budget, not just the branch library’s total operating budget, must meet the budget restrictions. Town libraries with total operating budgets over $150,000 and county libraries with total operating budgets over $350,000 are rarely given grants. The average total operating budget of a Books for Children grant recipient is less than $40,000.
FUNDING:  The Foundation will match on a 2-to-1 ratio funding (from $50 to $350) that the Friends, or other local sponsors, contribute.
DEADLINE:  The Foundation awards grants three times a year, with the next deadline (postmarked) being July 15, 2006. Other annual deadlines are December 15 and March 15.

Programs Targeting Children with Disabilities and Health Care Services for Uninsured People

CVS/pharmacy is providing organizations the opportunity to apply for a Community Grant for projects that fall within certain funding guidelines. Currently, proposals are being accepted for 1) programs that target children under 18 with disabilities that address any of the following: health and rehabilitation services; public schools promoting a greater level of inclusion in student activities and extracurricular programs; and creating opportunities or facilities that give greater access to physical movement and play; and 2) health care services for uninsured people.
ELIGIBILITY:  Non-profit organizations and public schools. To determine eligibility, visit the web site listed below to participate in the pre-screening process and complete an application form. Successful pre-screening applicants will be notified within four to six weeks as to whether funding will be provided.

Grants to Shelters for Victims of Domestic Violence

Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation

The goal of the Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation is to eliminate domestic violence. As part of that effort, the Foundation awards grants to women's shelters across the United States.
ELIGIBILITY:  In the fall of 2005, the Foundation awarded $20,000 grants to 150 women’s shelters across the United States.
FUNDING:  With the exception of travel, the funds awarded by the Foundation may be used for operating expenses of the shelter.

Funds for Youth Organizing

New York City Opportunities Fund

This funding opportunity is open to New York City community organizing groups that are actively engaged in youth organizing, specifically in low-income communities, and will provide small grants to address typically unmet technical assistance needs and/or collaboration projects defined by youth organizing groups. Areas of interest for these grants include, but are not limited to, the following: collaboration and networking between youth members; strategic reflection space for youth organizing groups, especially for collaborative campaigns; resource diversification and fundraising (especially non-foundation resources); membership building; wellness as it relates to organizational sustainability; and communications strategy.
ELIGIBILITY:  Community organizing groups in New York City as described above.

DEADLINE:  Proposals are accepted on a rolling basis. The next three dates for grant decisions are June 9, 2006; September 15, 2006; and December 8, 2006. Special requests may be granted outside of these dates at the discretion of FCYO.
