Public Library Construction Grants

State Department of Education

For the second year in a row, the New York State Legislature has provided a special allocation of $14 million in capital funds for public library construction in the State Budget. These funds are separate from and in addition to the annual $800,000 allocation for public library construction. Local libraries must work with their library system and submit all application materials to the system. The deadline for receipt of applications is set by each library system. Libraries are strongly encouraged to contact their system as soon as possible if the library plans to apply for a construction grant.
ELIGIBILITY:  Any public libraries with public activities and expenditures that include: the acquisition of a site and an existing building suitable for a conversion to library purposes, construction, and renovation or rehabilitation of a facility. Routine maintenance is not fundable.
FUNDING:  Up to 50% of a project, with the minimum being $2,500. No award will be made for a project under $5,000.

Hudson River Valley Greenway Water Trail Grant Program

Greenway Conservancy for the Hudson River Valley

The Hudson River Valley Greenway was established by New York State through the Greenway Act of 1991. Since then, the Greenway has been committed to the preservation, enhancement and development of the world-renowned scenic, natural, historic, cultural and recreational resources of the Hudson River Valley, that is also consistent with economic development goals and the tradition of municipal home rule. To assist with realizing these goals, the Greenway is charged with completing a Hudson River Valley Greenway Trail System. One component of that system is the “Hudson River Greenway Water Trail Program.” This program provides financial and technical assistance to site owners to help complete the Hudson River Water Trail. The Greenway Council has been designated the management entity for this program. Launch and campsite owners located along the Hudson River and within the designated Greenway Area and who are, or wish to become, a part of the water trail system are eligible to participate in the program. Site owners can undertake a variety of projects under this program.
ELIGIBILITY:  Projects must be located along the Hudson River and in the designated Greenway Area, which includes the riverfront municipalities located within the following counties: Albany, Columbia, Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rensselaer, Rockland, Ulster and Westchester; municipalities in Greene County outside of the Catskill Park; the Village and Town of Waterford in Saratoga County and the Hudson River waterfront in the Bronx and New York counties.
FUNDING:  Total funding available is $65,000 and the grant will match up to 50% of total project cost.

Child Abduction Prevention Education Program

Education Department

The Office of New York City School and Community Services has announced grants to help school districts and BOCES meet the statutory requirement to provide instruction in the prevention of abduction for all students in kindergarten through eighth grade. Grantees may use funds to develop or adopt a curriculum and/or implement an instructional program to help prevent child abduction. All grant funds must be obligated by June 30, 2008.
ELIGIBILITY:  Public school boards and BOCES.
FUNDING:  $1.5 million.

Teacher Resource and Computer Training Centers Grants

Teacher Resource and Computer Training Centers were established by the New York State Legislature in 1984 to provide systematic, ongoing professional education services to the State's teachers. Currently there are 127 Teacher Centers that provide high-quality professional development services to more than 230,000 educators annually in New York State. These Centers serve over 680 public school districts, 35 BOCES, and over 1000 non-public and charter schools.
ELIGIBILITY:  Public school districts and BOCES.
FUNDING:  $300,000.

Clean Water State Revolving Fund

Environmental Facilities Corporation

The New York State Environmental Facilities Corporation (EFC), the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and the Department of Health (DOH) are pleased to announce the availability of the draft Federal Fiscal Year (FFY) 2008 Intended Use Plans (IUPs) for the Clean Water State Revolving Fund (CWSRF) and the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (DWSRF). The IUPs include lists of projects that could receive low-interest financing between October 1, 2007 and September 30, 2008, the next IUP financing period. As well as information regarding intended use plans and project listings; due dates for comments; public meetings and hearings; application packages and due dates; and listing forms.

Occupational Health Clinic Network

The New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH), Division of Environmental Health Assessment, Bureau of Occupational Health, is soliciting applications for contracts for the operation of occupational health clinics to participate in a statewide clinic network.
ELIGIBILITY:  Not-for-profit organizations.
FUNDING:  Contracts will total approximately $5,550,000 per year and approximately 10 awards will be made.

Breast Cancer Education Programs

Department of Health

The purpose of this revised and re-issued Request for Applications is to invite applications from Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) in collaboration with researchers from accredited academic institutions, including medical centers, medical schools, teaching hospitals, universities and schools of public health, for the planning and assessment of new breast cancer education programs and materials.
ELIGIBILITY:  A not-for-profit 501(c)(3) CBO in New York State serving one or more New York community, including those participating in the DOH Healthy Women Partnerships.
FUNDING:  A maximum of six (6) projects will be funded. Each 24-month project will receive up to $150,000 plus up to 20 percent Facilities and Administrative costs for CBOs for its duration.

Grantsmanship Center

The Grantsmanship Training Program is coming to New York: Troy, September 17-21, 2007, hosted by the Commission on Economic Opportunity for the Greater Capital Region.

The classes will be conducted by The Grantsmanship Center and are kept at a maximum of 30 participants. The cost is $825, which includes one-year enrollment in the TGCI Membership Program. A limited number of half-tuition scholarships are available to agencies with annual budgets of less than $300,000.

Foundation Center

The Foundation Center has scheduled the following free training opportunities during July 2007:

Grantseeking Basics: Attendees will learn how the Center’s resources can help make them more effective grantseekers. For beginners, this introduction to the library provides instruction in foundation research and identification of potential funders. A tour of the library will follow. July 12, July 18 and July 26.

Proposal Writing Basics and Workshops: Attendees will learn about the basics of writing a proposal for their non-profit organizations. July 26..

Introduction to the Foundation Directory Online: This session provides a hands-on introduction to the Center’s comprehensive Web subscription database. July 12 and July 25.

How to Approach a Foundation: Attendees will learn how to initiate contact with potential funders; plan calls and meetings; and build partnerships with donors. This class is intended for fundraisers with some experience, though not necessarily with foundations. July 24.
