Families First

"When families succeed, our state succeeds, and that is why we are putting families first in the State of New York." -Speaker Carl Heastie

Calling it an investment in the health, safety, economic success and social well-being of New York's families, the 2015-16 state budget ensures that the priorities important to New York's families are put first. The $150.3 billion plan makes strategic investments in child care, education and higher education, health and human services, job growth, and includes measures to promote independence and economic security by raising the minimum wage and providing affordable housing.

Post budget, the Assembly continued to put families first with the creation of a utility consumer advocate and by fighting for paid family leave.
